Belichick’s Straightforward Response to Patriots QB Maye’s Comparison with Bills’ Allen Sparks Controversy
Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, was an idol to Drake Maye ever since he entered the league in 2018. The two are now rivals in their division.
The New England Patriots chose Maye with the third overall choice in the draft on Thursday night. Not only does Maye like Allen, but he also believes that their games are extremely similar. Even though Maye possesses some of the same intangibles that Allen did when he first entered the game, Maye’s comparison to Allen was harshly criticized by former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
In reaction to Maye/Allen similarities, Belichick offered four comments on Pat McAfee’s draft show.
“We’ll investigate that.”
Here’s what Belichick had to say after the selection, as reported by Doug Kyed.
“Drake thinks a lot like Josh Allen… We’ll investigate that further, Belichick said. “I believe there are some physical and size similarities, but Josh Allen is a truly unique player.”
Belichick refrained from drawing parallels between Maye and Buffalo’s starting quarterback, but he did praise the new signal caller for the Patriots.
“A really gifted young person. nice arm, runs well, and is of a nice size, according to Belichick. Simply said, he hasn’t played that much. He doesn’t actually have a lot of expertise. He produces some impressive plays. He will require some practice reading coverages and defenses.
