News: Sunderland’s loan agreement was cut short due to a setback in the winger’s injury, leaving their future uncertain
Jewison Bennette played with Aris FC of Greece on loan, however he only made two appearances.
Due to an injury setback, Jewison Bennette’s loan with Greek team Aris FC has ended early.
After being loaned to the Super League team in January, the 19-year-old played in just two games before tearing a muscle. Bennette will not play in Aris’ final two league games of the season, which come before the Greek Cup final against Panathinaikos.
“Bennette will not continue at Aris FC; the Costa Rican winger will return to Sunderland in the pre-season to define his future,” writes Costa Rican journalist Kevin Jimenez.
Bennette’s return to Sunderland was always scheduled for the preseason. When he joined the Black Cats in 2022, the 19-year-old signed a four-year contract with a club option for an additional year. Bennette made just one appearance in the Championship before to his loan move, therefore his first-team opportunities were limited at the beginning of the season.
