Breaking: Sunderland Retained List Revealed! Shocking Decisions Await Fans – What to Expect

When is the deadline for submitting the retained list?
Every year, the EFL sets a deadline for its clubs to submit their retained lists, which is typically towards the end of May (it’s generally the third Saturday in May). Playoff-bound clubs typically receive a short grace time before submitting, with their campaigns ending soon after. However, clubs are free to release their retained list whenever they like, and they usually do so soon after the campaign concludes. As a result, Sunderland’s retained list will probably be made public during the course of the following few weeks.
What fans of Sunderland should be on the lookout for?
Since most of the current senior squad has contracts in place for the upcoming season, the retained list will mostly serve to validate our presumptions. It will validate Sunderland’s choice between Corry Evans and Bradley Dack, two senior players.
Both have expired contracts, however in Dack’s case, the club has the option to extend for an additional year. It is anticipated that the offensive midfielder would go because he has struggled to get consistent playing time this season due to recurring injury concerns. Evans has also been limited to few games this season because of a persistent injury, but he has returned to the field with success in recent weeks.
The conclusion of Mason Burstow and Callum Styles’ loan periods with the team will also be confirmed by the retained list, and Styles’ future prospects might be updated. Sunderland agreed to pay Barnsley a fee to extend the loan agreement until the summer as part of the terms of the January agreement. Styles had trouble breaking into the squad at first, but since he has played more frequently and shown more at ease playing as a wing-back. It is unclear if he has persuaded the Black Cats to exercise their option, but if he has, they will probably make a statement at the same time or on the retained list, just like they did with Edouard Michut last summer.
Jack Diamond’s future will also be made clear by the retained list. After his loan stint at Carlisle United ended, Diamond’s contract expires this summer, though the club has the option to extend for a further year if they so choose.
The academy, what about it?
The club’s decisions on some players in the upper age groups of the academy whose contracts expire this summer will be made public by the retained list. One of those guys is Ellis Taylor, who, when healthy, has had a fantastic season with the U21s.
The majority of these decisions have already been communicated to the players; Harrison Jones, a midfielder, recently verified that the team had chosen to exercise its option to extend his contract by one more season. What isn’t immediately apparent is if the club’s inclusion in the Premier regular 2 play-offs, a prize for their successful regular season this year, would postpone the publishing of the list.
Will Chris Rigg’s future be updated by the retained list?
It is unlikely to provide a significant update. Since Rigg signed a two-year scholarship agreement last summer, he will technically be kept for the upcoming campaign. In actuality, he will be free to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 in June, leaving at any time.
