Breaking News: West Ham Star Bowen Ruled Out of Europa League Match
Jarrod Bowen will miss the opening leg of West Ham United’s Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen due to an injury.
Bowen, who has 19 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season, was forced off in the 54th minute of the Hammers’ 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday. While the forward’s injury does not appear to be serious, Mail Sport understands he will be unable to play Xabi Alonso’s side on Thursday.
It’s a tremendous disappointment for manager David Moyes, who had hoped his top scorer would recuperate in time for the trip to Germany. Speaking after his side’s triumph over Wolves, Moyes said: “You need all your top players at this point in time of the season and Jarrod.”
‘It appears he has a knee in his hip or back. It is not a twist and everything like that. He’s genuinely stiff, and I’ve had one or two of those myself, and they don’t go away easily.
‘We need to hope it doesn’t last. I asked Jarrod how he felt, and he stated he was sore. I just hope it isn’t too bad. “Every week, you need your big players to be ready, but that we require him this week.” Moyes will need a strong effort from the rest of his players, considering Leverkusen is unblemished in 41 games this season.
In addition, they lead the Bundesliga table by 16 points. However, the Hammers have only lost two of their last 23 European games under Moyes.
