Breaking: Neil Harris Sets Sights on Dynamic Attackers for Millwall Revamp
Neil Harris stated that he wants to give Millwall a little more “stardust” before focusing solely on the transfer market.
The Lions have one more game left before the season ends, traveling to Swansea City for the last game of a demanding schedule.
With everything riding on the final day of the Championship, the Lions might possibly fall to 18th, but they could also finish as high as 13th.
The transfer window and Harris’s future plans for Millwall took center stage during his final pre-game press conference of the season, rather than the actual game.
The head of the Lions told reporters, “Our thought process for recruiting is that, while we need to develop to grow as a football club, you can’t do it right immediately. After all, what is this football club? What are the values of it? What does it represent? With me as the head coach, it has a distinct character, and that is how Millwall does things.
“We need to attempt to imprint it with a contemporary mindset as well.”
What, in the end, should we add throughout the summer? At the top of the pitch, we need to be a little more creative in our attacking play. We have a solid defensive structure and track record, but perhaps we could use a little more imagination and one-on-one skills in some areas of the field. Those things will definitely benefit us the following season.
When asked what Millwall would eventually need to compete for promotion, he replied, “I know full well that’s the stardust you need to sprinkle in the modern day.” Since our first year in the Championship, that has been the club’s goal.
In my first season back in the Championship, we finished with 72 points after emerging from League One, although we were two points short of qualifying for the playoffs. We then attempted to use a sprinkle, but we were not quite successful. We made a U-turn.
“Trying to go to the next level is difficult. You cannot stray from your fundamental principles, and we must work to discover that [capacity] to be Millwall. These are the fundamental principles that this team upholds and that the supporters like to see. And since that is what Millwall Football Club is, you have to return to those basic principles when things become tough and you lose four games in a row.
