The NFL teams have one more week to bring in players for a Top 30 visit, and the Bills’ defensive back Cooper DeJean is one of those final visits. The former Iowa Hawkeye visited with the Bills on Tuesday, according to Jordan Schultz.
Among the group of possible first-round picks in this year’s NFL Draft, DeJean is one of the more divisive possibilities. The reason for this is simply, given his skill set, he truly doesn’t fit into any one role.
He started out as a safety in college before switching to cornerback. He had seven interceptions, which demonstrated a strong ability to force mistakes, but more significantly, he was able to put points on the board by returning three for touchdowns.
Cooper DeJean and former veteran safety Micah Hyde have some intriguing similarities. Hyde played more nickel and cornerback while with the Packers until the Bills moved him to safety. Both players attended Iowa. The Bills might see something like in DeJean; however, they should shift him straight to safety rather than having him play cornerback.
Roman Wilson, a wide receiver, is allegedly interviewing with the Buffalo Bills.
Ryan Talbot reports that Roman Wilson, a former wide receiver for Michigan, was interviewed via Zoom by the Bills. Roman Wilson would definitely be a possibility for the Bills’ second-round selection, which comes at number 60, if they were to select a guy similar to Cooper DeJean in the first round.
Wilson totaled 1,707 receiving yards, 20 receiving touchdowns, and 107 receptions during his four seasons at Michigan. Despite having the best season of his career—48 receptions, 789 receiving yards, and 12 receiving touchdowns—he ended up with a lifetime average of 16 yards per reception.
However, a run-heavy offense could be the reason for the lack of data. Wilson can break free from defenders on such deep routes thanks to his exceptional speed. If Wilson is the wide receiver the Bills choose with the first choice, the most important concern is whether they have adequate size.
Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, two smaller receivers with somewhat similar skill sets to Wilson, are now the two best wide outs. For the Bills offense, though, this may not be anything new as Sean McDermott called Zay Jones, Cole Beasley, and John Brown Smurfs in 2019.
