SAD News: San Jose Earthquakes Lose Star Goalkeeper

Daniel, the goalkeeper for the San Jose Earthquakes, will be out for four to six months following hamstring surgery, the team said on Wednesday. The injury happened to him last week during training.

The 29-year-old product of Brazil was one of San Jose’s finest players the previous season, which contributed to their return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. With 26 league games played, he has five clean sheets, making an impression since joining from Internacional in January 2023.

San Jose will likely rely on former US international and Colorado Rapids star William Yarbrough in Daniel’s absence. This past January, the squad led by head coach Luchi Gonzalez signed the seasoned goalie.

The starting goalie for San Jose in 2021–22, JT Marcinkowski, is recuperating from a chronic knee injury he sustained in October of last year. Goalkeepers on the Quakes squad include rising native Emmanuel Ochoa and Polish youth international Mikołaj Biegański.
