Longtime radio play-by-play announcer for the Buffalo Bills, John Murphy, suffered a stroke on January 1, 2023, which required him to miss the whole 2023 NFL season and the rest of the season.
Murphy’s voice hasn’t yet recovered to the point where he feels comfortable calling Bills games on the radio again, so the Buffalo Rumblinks kick off today’s show by honoring Murphy’s time as one of the greatest voices in Buffalo sportscasting history.
John Murphy, the play-by-play announcer, is retiring. John Murphy, who has worked on Buffalo radio broadcasts for 35 years and been the play-by-play voice of the Bills for the previous 19 seasons, is retiring from his role as the team’s radio voice while he continues to heal from a stroke he suffered in 2023.
