NEWS: Reading FC star Confirms His Comeback With Significant Impact
Tom Holmes, a Reading defender, had his first Under-23s appearance in nearly three months, scoring in a 2-2 tie with Tottenham Hotspur.
The 24-year-old Academy graduate joined Luton Town in January, but returned to his hometown club on loan until the end of the season. Despite suffering a back injury against Leyton Orient in January, the centre-back started for the junior team and played 45 minutes.
Ruben Selles indicated on Friday that he was fit for first-team selection following a week of training, but decided not to include him in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Lincoln City.
Spurs led by two goals inside 20 minutes in PL2, but Holmes equalised before half-time, and fellow defender John Clarke scored in the 90th minute to keep Spurs in the top ten.
Holmes will return to Kenilworth Road this summer after signing a long-term contract in the winter. The Hatters are now in the relegation zone in the Premier League, albeit only by goal difference.
The Royals have four League One games left, beginning with Bristol Rovers this evening. Burton Albion, Barnsley, and Blackpool are all scheduled to play before Saturday, April 27.
