NEWS: Reading FC Boss Drops Bombshell About Young Left-Back’s Explosive Debut
After John Ryan, a 20-year-old left back, was included in the matchday squad for the first time, Reading manager Ruben Selles has urged Ryan to keep working hard.
The Republic of Ireland international did not play in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Barnsley, a point that gave the Royals their first League One survival in a turbulent season.
Ryan joined from Serie A team Sassuolo in the summer and has been a regular for Noel Hunt’s Under-21 squad this season.
After club captain Andy Yiadom could not get over his knock from Bristol Rovers in time to play against his old team, fellow young full-back Kelvin Abrefa was handed his maiden league start for the team at Oakwell.
Following the draw, Selles said, “John has been traveling with us on a regular basis for the past few weeks. “In one-on-one defensive drills, he has demonstrated exceptional skill.
He has demonstrated many of the traits and skills we look for in a left-back. All he has to do is keep up his hard work, and maybe next or this season, something will happen.”
This season has two games left: on Saturday, the team will travel to Burton Albion, and on the last day, they will host Blackpool.
