Orlando Pirates midfielder Thalente Mbatha has opened up about his Bafana Bafana debut following the team’s 2-2 draw against Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier clash.
The Sea Robbers’ midfield maestro came off the bench towards the end of the match and snatched a crucial last-gasp goal for Hugo Broos’ side.
After his dominant display for just a few minutes, Mbatha revealed how he felt before making it to the pitch on the day.
WHAT MBATHA SAID
“At first I was kind of nervous but I had told myself that I must try by all means to play my game and be myself,” Mbatha told Pirates website.
“As the coach said we are in the team because we deserve it from our performances for our clubs, and we should work harder now that we are there.
“I want to thank God Almighty because if it wasn’t for him I wasn’t gonna get the opportunity and I’m really proud and happy for myself and hope that more are coming.”

Mbatha has been one of the key players for Jose Riveiro’s Orlando Pirates in the past eight months.
He first joined the Soweto giants from SuperSport United on a loan deal in January this year – before making a permanent move in July.
The former Highlands Park player’s impressive performances caught Broos’ eye and he handed him his maiden national team call-up this month.
