Man United’s £150m Transfer Bombshell: Two Star Signings That Could Ignite the Summer
Manchester United have stepped up their pre-season preparations ahead of their friendly with Real Betis in the early hours of Thursday in San Diego.
The Reds have so far had three friendlies during pre-season, starting with a defeat to Rosenborg before sealing a 2-0 win over Rangers. Rasmus Hojlund netted the only goal for Erik ten Hag’s side but that wasn’t enough to avoid defeat against Arsenal.
Ten Hag was handed a double injury blow against the Gunners when Hojlund was forced to come off with what was hinted as a hamstring issue while Leny Yoro later went down needing treatment during a drinks break.
Antony attracting interest from Turkey
Turkish outlet BJK Habers reports Antony is subject of interest from Besiktas. The Turkish giants are thought to be in the market for a wide attacker ahead of the new season.
The Brazilian had an underwhelming season at Old Trafford and there have been rumours he could depart on loan. However, Antony prefers to stay at the club. Addressing the rumours, his agent said: “I see reports about potential exit on loan. Antony’s plan is clear: Manchester United. He wants to stay, he’s only focused on Man United. We already spoke about that with the club.”
Meanwhile, Ten Hag remains convinced Antony can reach his potential. “I am still convinced that Antony has the potential to play at this club,” he said. “He certainly showed that potential in the first month. He scored three times in his first three games. After that it became more difficult, last season was not good.”
MEN Sport says: After another underwhelming season at Old Trafford, a fresh start may do the winger a world of good. He only scored one Premier League goal and grabbed one assist in 29 games last season which is nowhere near good enough for a United side trying to finish in the Champions League places. United spent a huge amount of money on him and he has so far failed to deliver. A loan move could give him the platform he needs to rediscover his form.
Jadon Sancho ‘agreement’
Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle to sign Jadon Sancho, according to Sports Zone (via Get Football News). The 24-year-old has been part of Ten Hag’s squad for pre-season training after spending six months on loan at Borussia Dortmund last term.
The report adds that United would be willing to sanction an exit for £50m (€60m). However, it is claimed Sancho is not a priority signing for PSG, as they are also exploring other options.
MEN Sport says: From what we saw of Sancho during his time at Dortmund as well as in pre-season so far, it could be a mistake to let the winger leave this summer. He is certainly capable of producing the same heights at Old Trafford and could prove to be a significant player for Ten Hag. He will be motivated to show his worth after being unable to do so for the second half of last season. Although Sancho clearly has plenty of talent, next season will be make or break for him at the United.
