GOOD News: Reading FC Star Player Nominated for An Award; He Deserves It

Sam Smith, a forward for Reading, is a nominee for the EFL Player of the Month award for March after scoring a ton of goals to assist his team escape relegation danger.

The 25-year-old, who rose through the ranks at the Royals but was unable to break through into the squad, left the team to play well for Cambridge United for two seasons before joining them again in the summer on a long-term contract.

After missing the opening few games of the season due to injury, Smith has made 31 appearances and scored 12 goals in League One as Ruben Selles’ team overcame a 10-point deficit in November to go nine points clear of the drop zone going into the last three games.

For the month of March, Smith scored in four straight league games as Reading won three and lost two. The Mancunian scored the game’s opening goal last night at the Memorial Stadium as Reading defeated Bristol Rovers 2-0.

The other candidates for the gong are Joe Taylor of Lincoln City, Alfie May of Charlton Athletic, and Ebou Adams of Derby County. On Friday, the award winners will be revealed.
