Breaking News: Swindon Town’s Manager Warns Fans – Star Player’s Future Hangs in Balance
Paul Glatzel is playing at a level that will undoubtedly draw interest from other clubs, according to Gavin Gunning.
Glatzel has become a vital member of the Town team very fast, scoring in each of his last four games and six goals overall since joining from Liverpool in January. The contract for the former German youth international expires at the conclusion of this season, but Town has the option to extend it for an additional year.
Gunning stated that if Glatzel hadn’t experienced a run of bad luck in front of goal at the beginning of his Town career, his goal total may have appeared even healthier.
“I believe that [the one-year optional contract extension] will be accepted, what do you think?” he remarked. Though I could be wrong, I believe it could be taken. “I believe it will be difficult to hold onto him.
Fortunately, he did not score all of those goals when they were cleared off the line, or else we might be discussing our lack of chance to retain him.
” He is a valuable asset that we currently have a few of, so it’s excellent that we have him and great business for the club. “Paul has consistently been an eight out of ten wherever he has been.”
Over the course of Town’s last six games, Glatzel and Aaron Drinan, his striking partner against Barrow AFC, have scored eight goals between them. Gunning claimed that all it took to gauge the team’s performance was to look at the players they were substituting out.
Gunning sees Charlie Austin and Harry McKirdy’s reduction to supporting roles at the SO Legal Stadium as a sign of improvement.
He declared: “Unfortunately, it is probably what I have been trying to accomplish. When you have too many strikers and are deficient in one position, you attempt to get them all on the field.
The two youngsters that played today performed incredibly well, but we have two terrific talents on the bench in McKirdy and Austin.
“There’s no denying the competition, and having players like Charlie Austin and Harry McKirdy on your bench can only be advantageous.”
