Roman Josi, captain of the Nashville Predators, was selected as the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for the week that concluded on April 14. With seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) in three games, Josi led all defenseman and finished fourth in the NHL as the Predators went 2-0-1 to earn their 16th postseason trip in the previous 20 years.
In a 4-3 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on April 9, he recorded two assists in the third quarter, including his 80th point of 2023–24, as Nashville came back to earn its playoff-clinching point. Josi also recorded his second 60-assist game on April 12 against the Chicago Blackhawks, adding another assist to the total.
In 2021–2022, he achieved the milestone for the last time, totaling 73 assists in 80 games. In Nashville’s 6-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 13, Josi finished the week with his eighth career four-point performance and first since Nov. 17, 2022 (4 assists against the New York Islanders).
With 85 points from 81 games played so far this season, Josi is ranked third among defenseman and 22nd overall in the NHL. His 85 points are the highest since 2021–22, when he set a career-high of 96. Only two other active blueliners—Cale Makar of Colorado and Erik Karlsson of Pittsburgh, who each has two—have achieved multiple 80-point campaigns. With 23 goals this season, Josi leads all NHL defenseman in goals scored.
Among league blueliners, his 62 assists are tied with Edmonton’s Evan Bouchard for fourth place. Josi has established a strong argument to be taken into consideration as a finalist at the end of the season, even though Makar and Quinn Hughes of Vancouver are generally seen as the favorites to win the Norris Trophy, which is given to the league’s best defenseman.
