Breaking News: Manly Targets Titans Castoff as Shocking Replacement for DCE — Transfer Bombshell
The Manly Sea Eagles are reportedly set to make a play for out of favour Gold Coast Titans halfback Tanah Boyd with a view to him replacing Daly Cherry-Evans long-term.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported Manly are considering targeting Boyd as a potential long-term successor to skipper Cherry-Evans.
Boyd is contracted until the end of 2025 and is free to negotiate with rivals from Novembe r 1.
However, the Titans have granted Boyd permission to explore his options immediately after he fell out of favour under Des Hasler last season.
The Titans currently have Kieran Foran, Jayden Campbell, AJ Brimson and former Wallabies star Carter Gordon as their other halves options for 2025.
Boyd’s management has been sounding out clubs about the prospect of signing the halfback, with the Sea Eagles showing interest in securing his services.
The 24-year-old has scored nine tries and kicked 108 goals in 69 games for the Titans since his debut in 2019.
However, Boyd has been shuffled from halfback to dummyhalf to five-eighth and back in his career and hasn’t settled on a position, but he sees his best spot as No.7.
Manly are keen to bring Boyd to the club as Cherry-Evans’ understudy with a view to him succeeding the Maroons skipper when he retires.
Cherry-Evans is contracted for next year, but is yet to decide whether it will be his last before hanging up the boots.
Despite being dropped by the Kangaroos, Cherry-Evans is still playing at a high level for Manly and Queensland, but it remains to be seen how long he wants to play on.
Manly also have Luke Brooks at five-eighth who could switch to No.7, but they let other potential halves Jamie Humphreys and Josh Schuster leave to join Souths.
The Sea Eagles also have former Eels halfback Jake Arthur on their books, but he missed a chunk of last season due to stress fractures in his foot.
Manly also recently signed Australian under-18s rugby flyhalf and captain Joey Walsh, who will step into the club’s top-30 roster in 2025 and Junior Wallaby Onitoni Large from the Wests Tigers, but both are very young in their development.
Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold has history with Boyd from their time together at Brisbane, where the latter came through the junior ranks.
