Breaking News: Canucks’ Nikita Zadorov Goes Off on Carson Soucy’s Suspension
On Tuesday, Nikita Zadorov made another incredible statement, this time criticizing NHL Player Safety. When questioned about Carson Soucy’s suspension, the Vancouver Canucks defender used the chance to inquire about the league’s decision-making process about what constitutes additional discipline.
After cross-checking Connor McDavid at the end of Game 3, Soucy received a one-game suspension, and Zadorov was fined $5,000 for doing the same to the captain of the Edmonton Oilers.
Zadorov’s dissatisfaction with the league might have stemmed from the fact that no Oilers players received additional discipline. After the game, Zach Hyman cross-checked Zadorov in the face, causing the Canucks defender to get cut, and McDavid slashed Soucy with two hands.
As previously stated, however, Hyman was not fined or suspended despite taking a straight shot to Zadorov’s head and acting in a way that the NHL had determined was risky enough to warrant a ban only moments before.
The final statement Zadorov makes in his response is the most critical: “At the end of the day, they have to protect their investment.” Zadorov is obviously displeased with NHL Player Safety, and he is not the only one. Particularly throughout this postseason, supporters from all over the league have questioned George Parros and his team’s decision-making.
Even while risky slew-foots, spears, cross-checks, and head punches have gone unpunished, the moment an incident involving McDavid occurs, the disciplinary committee will contact many players. The players and fans should speak out NHL Player Safety’s apparent discrepancy in their ruling.
Game 4 between Vancouver and Edmonton will resume on Tuesday night. The Canucks would return home with the opportunity to play the final game of the series on Thursday night in front of their home crowd if they prevailed. Rogers Place will host the game at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
