“Looking back, leaving Kansas City was a step up,” Hitchens stated candidly. “I appreciated the fans and the city, but the coaching and the direction of the team? That’s where I felt things were lacking.”
Hitchens, now thriving with his new team, took aim at former Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. “The defensive schemes were predictable, and it often felt like we were one step behind the competition,” Hitchens noted. “I realized I needed to move on to grow as a player and reach my full potential.”
Despite the Chiefs’ recent success in the NFL, including a Super Bowl victory, Hitchens’ comments underscore the internal frustrations that led to his departure. When asked if he would ever consider returning to the Chiefs, Hitchens brushed off the idea. “I’ve found a much better situation,” he said. “My time in Kansas City was important, but I have no regrets about leaving.”
