SWINDON TOWN TO UNVEIL STATUE OF JOHN TROLLYPE AT THE COUNTY GROUND IN TRIBUTE TO RECORD-BREAKING CLUB LEGEND
Swindon Town Football Club have announced plans to honour one of their most iconic figures, John Trollope, with a permanent statue at the County Ground — a fitting tribute to a man whose name is etched in the very fabric of the club’s proud history.
The statue, set to be unveiled ahead of the 2025–26 season, will celebrate Trollope’s extraordinary service to Swindon Town. A true one-club man, Trollope made a record 770 league appearances for the Robins between 1960 and 1980, a feat unmatched in English football. His loyalty, consistency, and quiet leadership made him a fixture on the left flank and a hero to generations of Swindon supporters.
Club Chairman Clem Morfuni said, “John Trollope represents everything this club stands for — loyalty, humility, and pride. His record speaks for itself, but it’s the respect he commands within the game and among our fans that makes this statue so deserved. We’re proud to honour him in this way.”
The statue will be located outside the Don Rogers Stand, forming a lasting tribute alongside the club’s other greats. Designed by a leading sports sculptor, the monument will depict Trollope in his iconic kit, mid-stride, capturing the essence of a player whose work ethic and reliability made him a cornerstone of Swindon Town for over two decades.
Trollope, now 81, expressed his gratitude: “It’s a tremendous honour. Swindon has always been my home, and the club means everything to me. I’m deeply touched by this gesture and look forward to sharing the moment with the fans.”
Fans, former players, and club dignitaries will be invited to a special unveiling ceremony later this year. The club also plans to launch a commemorative programme, with interviews, rare photos, and memories of Trollope’s legendary career.
This statue will not only stand as a tribute to one man, but as a symbol of Swindon Town’s enduring spirit and the values that define its proud past.
