News Confirmation: Oliver Glasner Finally Breaks Silence On Rejecting Ryan Sessegon for Crystal Palace

Thursday saw Crystal Palace disappointingly miss out on bringing Ryan Sessegnon to Selhurst Park on a permanent deal, after having him on trial for weeks.
The Englishman is heading back to his former side Fulham after leaving Spurs for free last month. This initially was a baffling move from all involved, considering he’d already played in friendlies for Palace.

But now, all has been explained, with Oliver Glasner having the deciding say in whether he’d be signed or not. Here’s why the Austrian snubbed the chance to sign him.

Despite it initially looking as though Sessegnon had rejected Palace for Fulham, now it’s been explained it was actually the opposite.

While it’s a strange situation that Sessegnon played in friendlies for Palace only not to sign, it was what Glasner wanted, as The Athletic reported.

“Palace head coach Oliver Glasner turned down the opportunity to sign Sessegnon, who could have provided competition to Tyrick Mitchell at left-back.”
In addition to this, journalist Alan Nixon tweeted an update of his own when asked by a fan. Nixon explained that the “manager [Glasner] wasn’t sure he [Sessegnon] was what was needed”.
With a left-back still needed at the club to strengthen the depth beyond Tyrick Mitchell, it’s interesting that Glasner has rejected this free agent.

While depth will remain a concern in both full-back positions, Palace might not need to worry with academy player Tayo Adaramola a potential option to support Mitchell.
Adaramola could make Glasner forget all about Sessegnon and due to the fact Palace are unlikely to spend big money on a back-up, the youth is the way to go.

Adaramola is 20 and is an Ireland U21 international. The left-back has already made two senior appearances for the Eagles, totalling 69 minutes.

Adding to this, he played 14 times at RWD Molenbeek last season on loan which will have helped him develop at a senior level.

An exciting talent who we’d rather see given a chance than wasting the budget on a player who is unlikely to start over Mitchell anyway.
