Massive News! Bendnar Announce Return Of Star Player “THE CHANGER”
The Colorado Avalanche expect to have Valeri Nichushkin back in the lineup next Friday, coach Jared Bednar confirms.
Bednar spoke to the media on Sunday, revealing a firm date for Nichushkin’s return. When asked if a date was set for Nichushkin’s return Bednar replied, “Friday’s the day.” “Friday” means November 15 against the Washington Capitals at Ball Arena.
Nichushkin is eligible to come off the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on November 15. Unless an unforeseen setback takes place, the road should be clear for Nichushkin to hit the ice next Friday.
The Avs have already expressed their desire to have Nichushkin back into the lineup. Earlier this season, Bednar and GM Chris MacFarland stated that they would welcome Nichushkin back with “open arms.”
Nichushkin’s return couldn’t have come at a better time. The Avs are already down two top-six forwards in Ross Colton and Jonathan Drouin. Plus, Artturi Lehkonen’s return this week was a huge boost for the Avs’ depleted lineup.
With Nichushkin back, the Avs get another top-six forward to round out the talented core including Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Mikko Rantanen.
It’s worth pointing out that Bednar assured reporters that Nichushkin would be ready to go on Friday. When asked if Nichushkin would be ready for NHL action, Bednar emphatically confirmed Nichushkin would be one hundred percent ready to go.
The Colorado Avalanche have had one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory. Nichushkin’s absence was felt among a sea of injuries and suspensions. The Avs started the season with Nichushkin out, captain Gabe Landeskog on LTIR, and Lehkonen recovering from shoulder surgery.
Along the way, the Avs lost Drouin in the first week of the season, then Colton after his torrid run on the top line. Miles Wood also joined the Avs’ MASH unit as the club dealt with numerous wounded warriors.
