“Katy Perry Did the Unthinkable in Surprise Sharks Encounter – ‘The Legendary Origin Moment’”

The Cronulla Sharks have a new high-profile fan after surprising Katy Perry and gifting the pop sensation a signed jersey in Las Vegas.

Nicho Hynes and Kayal Iro had the opportunity to meet Perry at a studio of SiriusXM Hits 1 during an interview with the American singer on the Morning Mashup breakfast show.

Radio host Nicole Ryan introduced Perry to the Cronulla duo, much to the surprise of the chart-topping superstar.

Although Perry, who has previously toured Australia, showed off her existing rugby league knowledge by referencing the moment Blues doctor John Orchard inserted staples into the bleeding head wound on NSW winger Michael De Vere.

“Can I say, rugby is really primal,” Perry said.

“There was a gentleman who had his head stapled and played again. He’s an icon.

“You guys are bad asses. You are the Sharks that I want to see.”

Perry was later presented with a signed Sharks jersey by Hynes.

“Oh my God. Oh my gosh. I guess I rep the Sharks in Sydney now,’’ she said, before telling Hynes and Iro that she wanted them to come to her show in Sydney in June.

Perry even asked if it “would be weird” if she had one of them in the left shark costume, referencing the dancing shark which took part in her Super Bowl XLIX halftime show and went viral for forgetting the choreography.

The once-in-a-lifetime meet-up with Perry was a product of Cronulla’s ongoing collaboration with Morning Mashup Producer Ben Harlum.

“She was kind enough to give us the time and to chat with us about the Sharks,” Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta said.

“Katy said she will have to cheer for the Sharks now.”

Hynes and Iro also recorded an interview that will be aired in the US later in the week.
