“Insider Reveals: Aaron Rodgers’ Cunning Strategy to Dominate Packers’ Contract Exposed.
While Aaron Rodgers may not be a member of the Green Bay Packers anymore, his time there may still have an impact on the franchise’s future. Due to the nature of his previous one-year contract extension that kicked in on May 3, 2023, the Packers had to wait until May 3 of this year to negotiate a new deal with him.
According to sports agent Joel Corry, writing for CBS Sports, Love’s camp may want a deal comparable to the one Rodgers signed with the organization in 2022, which earned him $50 million per year, during this round of contract discussions.
“It wouldn’t be unexpected if Love’s representation not only wanted more than this deal, but also insisted on their client becoming the league’s highest-paid player, similar to Rodgers. The Packers will undoubtedly oppose this notion, pointing that Rodgers was coming off back-to-back NFL MVP seasons when he signed the contract. [via CBS Sports]
During his first season as the Packers’ starter in 2023, Love looked like a franchise quarterback, leading the team to the NFC Divisional Round (where they lost to eventual NFC Champions San Francisco) and completing 64% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The current highest-paid quarterback in the NFL is Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, who makes $55 million per season. Behind Burrow sits Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers at $52.5 million per season, Lamar Jackson of the Ravens at $52 million, Jalen Hurts of the Eagles at $51 million, and Russell Wilson of the Steelers at $48.5 million.
As for Rodgers, his deal with the New York Jets — which was reworked in July 2023 — pays him $75 million over two seasons. One of those seasons, however, was 2023, which saw Rodgers play in just four snaps for Gang Green before tearing his Achilles in the first game of the season.
