Great News: Ex-Derby County Captain Richard Keogh Lands Major Opportunity After Blackpool Axe…

Former Derby County captain Richard Keogh will take charge of Blackpool on an interim-basis after the League One club sacked head coach Neil Critchley.

The former Liverpool coach has paid the price for back-to-back defeats at the start of the season which followed on from a disappointing 2023/24 campaign that ended with them missing out on the playoffs.

That has been enough to convince Simon Sadler to part company with Critchley whose assistant Mike Garrity has also left Bloomfield Road. Former Derby captain Keogh, who made more than 300 appearances for the Rams, will now take the reins for Pool’s trip to Cambridge this weekend having joined the club in the summer as the first-team coach.

“Neil’s dedication, commitment and tireless work ethic have been a real credit to the club,” said Sadler. “Despite his best efforts over the past 12 months, there have been a number of disappointing results and performances which means that a change is needed to give the club every possible chance of competing at the top end of the division this season.

“I will always be thankful for Neil’s wonderful efforts in guiding the Club to promotion to the Championship in 2021, and then comfortably keeping us in the division the following season. I and all at the Club wish Neil and Mike the very best for the future.”
