GOODNEWS: Celebration Hit Adam Fox As He Receives… Award
The third annual Rod Gilbert “Mr. Ranger” Award goes to the New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox.
The winner is the Rangers player “who best honors Rod’s legacy by demonstrating leadership qualities both on and off the ice, and making a significant compassionate contribution to his community.”
The 26-year-old Fox has contributed both on and off the ice throughout his five seasons with the Blueshirts. The first-year assistant captain and a few teammates organized a Junior Rangers hockey clinic at the MSG Training Center in February, raising $20,000 for the Garden of Dreams Foundation and Tackle ALS.
With more than 4,500 gift transactions since Tackle ALS launched in November 2018, more than $5.3M has been generated to assist the development of innovative ALS treatments and therapies (100% of the proceeds go to ALS research).
Before the current campaign started, the native of Jericho, New York, and a number of his Rangers teammates took part in the Shoulder Check Showcase in Stamford, Connecticut. An #HT40 project called Shoulder Check encourages young men and women to make a commitment to helping one another by doing small things that add up to a lot. to demonstrate to them the simplicity of “being there” with a hand on a shoulder.
In 69 games this season, Fox has amassed 70 points (six goals and 54 assists)—a career high—on the ice. Since Brian Leetch in 2000–01, he has scored the most goals of any Rangers defenceman (21). He is tied for sixth in points, seventh in goals, and eighth in assists among NHL defensemen. In his 349th NHL game, Fox scored his 300th point on March 30 in Arizona. With just Brian Leetch (295 GP) being the other defenseman to accomplish the feat with the Rangers, he became one of just 13 defensemen in NHL history to do so in fewer than 350 games.
