GOOD NEWS: UConn Makes Historic Announcement After Oklahoma Game!

UConn Makes Historic Announcement After Oklahoma Game!

Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team beat the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday, allowing them to advance to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

Much of the talk about the game has been about the Huskies’ 13th straight tournament victory, which ties the record for the second-longest NCAA Tournament win streak ever. The Duke Blue Devils did the same thing from 1991 to 1993.

However, the Huskies themselves made sure to remind fans about another historic achievement accomplished after their 67-59 win over the Sooners.

In an announcement on social media, the Huskies highlighted that fourth-year forward Samson Johnson is now the winningest player in UConn men’s basketball history. Friday’s win marked the 115th of his career with the team.

“SAMSON JOHNSON. WINNINGEST PLAYER IN UCONN MEN’S BASKETBALL HISTORY. THE WARRIOR,” UConn Men’s Basketball wrote on X, along with an edited photo showing his accomplishment.

Making it even sweeter, Samson Johnson played a big role in UConn’s win against the Sooners, recording eight points, six rebounds, two assists and one block.

Johnson largely played a backup role in his first three years at UConn. In the 2024-25 campaign. However, he was a starter and played in 32 of 33 games for the team (he only missed one contest against Xavier back in December).

If UConn is able to go deep into this NCAA Tournament amid its title defense bid, Johnson should be able to add more to his record and make it difficult for anyone else to catch up to him.
