Confirmed: Canucks Stun Fans with Jaw-Dropping Four-Year Deal for Dakota Joshua
The Vancouver Canucks continue to get business done ahead of free agency. On Thursday, GM Patrik Allvin announced that Vancouver have signed Dakota Joshua to a four-year contract extension worth $13 million. The contract will carry an AAV of $3.25 and keep Joshua in Canucks colours until the end of the 2027-28 season.
In the press release, Allvin wrote, “Dakota had a strong season for us and took some big steps forward in his game. We really like his size, his speed and physicality. He fit in well with our system and the way we want to play hockey and I look forward to watching him to continue to develop under our coaching staff.”
Joshua had a breakout season in 2023-24. He set new career highs with 18 goals, 14 assists and 32 points while eclipsing the 240-hit mark for the first time in his NHL career. As for the playoffs, Joshua was a wrecking ball throughout, finishing third in the NHL with 74 hits in 13 games. Joshua was also able to build strong chemistry with Conor Garland and Teddy Blueger as the trio created one of the most dominant third lines in the NHL.
Bringing back Joshua was vital for the organization as he brings size and skill to the lineup. Joshua earned this raise and should be able to provide value to Vancouver throughout the contract. Ultimately, it is an excellent move on both sides and keeps a fan favourite with the Canucks for the next four seasons.
