Under second-year head coach Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes finished 2024 with a 36-14 Alamo Bowl loss to BYU following a 9-3 regular season.
Fans have been speculating for months that Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback, might leave for a new coaching position following the departure of Colorado’s two biggest football stars, Travis Hunter, the receiver/cornerback, and Sanders, for the 2025 NFL draft.
Sanders, however, has been clear that he intends to stay in Boulder. If nothing crazy happens in the coming months, Colorado football seems to have a head coach.
However, this is not the case for the school’s baseball team. Not yet, anyway. CU Boulder Club Baseball issued a public call for applications on Saturday in hopes of hiring a new head coach.
“We are in search of coaches for the upcoming season! Multiple positions are open, please send a DM if interested in applying #skobuffs,” the @CUBuffBaseball account wrote on X with an accompanying “head coach needed” graphic.
Social media fans quickly took the low-hanging jokes to heart, recommending Deion Sanders as the ideal candidate.
“Deion Sanders has a chance to do the funniest (expletive) ever,” comedian Roy Wood Jr. wrote on X. “Could @DeionSanders become the first 2-sport coach in D1 College Sports???? ,” a fan suggested.
“@DeionSanders can you squeeze this in?” someone joked. “Seriuosly? You have a certain someone already on the Colorado payroll that kind a (knows) a little about baseball.
How bout it @DeionSanders,” another asked.
Sanders, 57, played nine seasons for four different Major League Baseball teams in addition to his 14-year NFL career that was inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 641 career games, Sanders batted .263 with 39 home runs, 168 RBI, 186 stolen bases and 308 runs scored.
