You’ve likely heard about the Mookie Betts incident involving a Yankees fan in Game 4 of the World Series. Betts was visibly unhappy, as the play was quickly ruled fan interference, resulting in Gleyber Torres being called out. Security personnel immediately rushed onto the field.
Such behavior is unacceptable in any game, especially in a World Series matchup. The fans involved were escorted out.
Today, these fans, including a Yankees season-ticket holder, gained significant media attention, including a favorable tweet from Jesse Rogers (which I won’t link here to avoid giving further publicity).
Initially, the Yankees had said these fans could return for Game 5, but it seems that the Commissioner’s office intervened. Rogers also reported that the fan in question (still unnamed here but in Rogers’ tweet) would face arrest if attempting to re-enter Yankee Stadium tonight with another ticket.
The Cubs’ ticket policy, likely similar across all teams, outlines terms and conditions, which could lead to prosecution—though it may not come to that.
So, a reminder to everyone: don’t engage in this kind of behavior. The Yankees may consider extending safety nets in the outfield after this season.
