Although big-name, high-cost options may be out of reach, the Lions have reportedly inquired about Cleveland Browns’ 32-year-old edge rusher Za’Darius Smith. Smith, a strong fit for the Lions, commented on the idea of joining the team, expressing enthusiasm about facing former rivals Green Bay and Minnesota.
Smith has consistently ranked among Pro Football Focus’ top 40 edge defenders this season (currently at No. 37) and has recorded five sacks, including one in each of his last two games. Since openly discussing a possible trade to Detroit, Smith has ramped up his performance, amassing 14 quarterback pressures over the past two games. Against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens, he recorded a season-high nine pressures, which caught the attention of Colton Pouncy from The Athletic, who noted the irony in Smith’s recent surge in pressure.
