Breaking News: Mendez-Laing’s Heartfelt Declaration Leaves Fans Speechless
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, a forward for Derby County, says he adores “everything about the club,” which he now views as his home.
With an incredible amount of goals and assists in 2023–24, the 32-year-old enjoyed his best season to date personally. His efforts eventually secured him a berth in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Season.
With nine goals and fifteen assists in 46 league games, he made a significant contribution, totaling 24 goal involvements. He participated in four more cup competitions, increasing his record with two more assists and one goal.
Mendez-Laing talked to RamsTV on his and his teammates’ “special” season, which ended with a 2-0 victory at home over Carlisle United, guaranteeing automatic promotion to the Championship.
Regarding his feelings following his promotion last weekend…
We created wonderful memories with each other throughout that unique period. For the club as a whole, my family, all the boys, and the staff all had a fantastic day.
When he began to feel certain that the task was finished…
It was with ten minutes remaining, leading 2-0 against Carlisle, that I truly began to believe we had won. It still feels really strange. It was astonishing to see the pitch invasion when the whistle went.
Regarding the group’s closeness this season…
Success is mostly dependent on having close relationships. The guys who aren’t starting games still have a duty to assist the other guys and be prepared for your turn to play. Even the guys who weren’t on the team contribute significantly to success, so in the end, it’s all worthwhile to reach the goal.
Regarding his individual achievement during the campaign: “I feel like I can appreciate the personal accolades a little more now that the main aim was promotion.” They would have just been ignored if we hadn’t been promoted. I’m glad that I had what was arguably my best season as a player.
Regarding if he believes Paul Warne has brought forth his best work…
That’s what the figures indicate! I get along so well with the manager. When you step onto the pitch, the skills you develop off it are helpful. I do believe that the freedom he offers me brings out the best in me. I’m surrounded by excellent musicians who make the work a lot easier.
Regarding his individual path… I’ve been asked several times how this promotion seems to other people. When I was at Cardiff City, I was certainly ecstatic to be promoted to the Premier League, but it feels even more special now that my children are there, and it was a really emotional time.
I adore that he has now participated in more games for Derby County than any other team. I’ve expressed my happiness here in numerous interviews. I adore every aspect of the club, and I can’t wait to visit and create wonderful memories there the next season.
