Breaking News: Lakers Drop Bombshell Decision, Amid Playoff Heartbreak Against Denver Nuggets

After two years in the role, head coach Darvin Ham of the Los Angeles Lakers was fired. The decision was made in response to the Lakers’ elimination by the reigning champion Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the playoffs. Frank Vogel was replaced by Ham following the 2020–21 campaign.

The Lakers have advanced to the postseason both seasons under Ham, including a trip to the Western Conference Finals the previous season. But the Nuggets, the eventual champs, defeated them. The Lakers posted a statement announcing their split from Ham, saying, “We greatly appreciate Darvin’s efforts on behalf of the Lakers and recognize the many accomplishment achieved.”

We are all grateful to Darvin for his commitment and upbeat attitude. After a thorough evaluation of the season, this was the right course of action, despite the difficulty of the decision. This organization will never waver in its resolve to provide Lakers fans worldwide with basketball of championship standard.”

Following their defeat against the Nuggets, Ham told ESPN, “I’ll tell you that it’s been a hell of a two years sitting in this seat.”

The Lakers finished 90-74 overall under Ham. The club had a strong start to the season as well, going on a stunning 7-0 run in December to win the first-ever in-season competition.

After that, though, things took a turn for the worse as the Lakers dropped 12 of their subsequent 17 games.

The team led by LeBron James then worked hard to win 11 of their final 14 games, finishing 47-35 and qualifying for the postseason for the fourth time in the previous five years.

Lakers star James performed admirably under Ham. In 71 games this season, the 39-year-old averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game, which is his greatest total since the 2017–18 Cleveland Cavaliers season. Whether or whether LeBron will be back for the upcoming season is unknown.
