Breaking: Knicks’ Petty Lawsuit Against Raptors Backfires – Jaw-Dropping Details Revealed
For women’s basketball, basketball in general, and Canada as a whole, this was a happy week. Amidst the thrilling opening round of the NBA Conference Finals and the WNBA’s second week, the league revealed that its upcoming expansion team will be based in Toronto.
Several political and basketball celebrities, including former Toronto Raptors players, joined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the announcement on Thursday in Toronto.
Nearly all other WNBA and NBA teams concurred with WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert when she said that Toronto was an obvious choice to be the next club. In actuality, 29 out of 30 NBA governors and all 13 WNBA governors supported the expansion.
The lone vote against? James Dolan of the New York Knicks, of course. James Dolan is Petty’s King. Though it should be noted that Dolan has officially withdrawn from direct voting, it is evident that he makes all of the decisions about the Knicks’ operations.
He is obviously the driving force behind the dissenting vote, as his influence can be seen in every aspect of the business, including hiring choices and arena usage. It’s just the kind of petty behavior he enjoys.
The Toronto Raptors are presently facing legal action from the New York Knicks for allegedly taking confidential data. The assistant video coordinator who left the Knicks to work for the Raptors is at the center of the allegations.
He probably did bring some material with him, as is customary in the business, and the confidential data he is alleged to have taken pertains to a database that is open to all NBA clubs.
The whole situation becomes clear when you consider that the NBA wants its teams to resolve disagreements through league office arbitration rather than going to court. From a competitive perspective, James Dolan felt belittled by something that happened frequently and hardly affected him at all.
This petty animosity resulted in an unwarranted legal dispute and is currently influencing people to oppose any initiatives Toronto is participating in, such as a WNBA expansion.
Dolan might also have resentment against Joe Trai, the Brooklyn Nets governor, for purchasing the New York Liberty. Now centered around Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, the Liberty are a star-studded team that contributes to the WNBA’s increasing popularity and financial stability.
Although the addition of a team in Toronto will benefit the Liberty and the league as a whole—and he continues to reap some financial benefits from it as an NBA governor—it is evident that this will not be sufficient to win over Dolan.
This summer may see the arrival of the petty cherry on top of Dolan’s pettiness sundae, which consists of two scoops of petty covered in spicy petty sauce. It was far from inevitable, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, that OG Anunoby would re-sign in New York.
Anunoby was an important player for the Knicks until a hamstring injury kept him out of the playoffs when the team most needed him. In December, the Knicks dealt important young players to none other than the Toronto Raptors in order to acquire Anunoby.
He may now walk for nothing this summer, which gave the Raptors access to RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley while leaving the Knicks without a way to replace him.
