The five-time Wimbledon champion, who now leads a successful fashion and lifestyle brand under his own name, made the announcement through the Björn Borg Foundation, calling the donation “a small return to the world that gave me so much.”
“Tennis gave me identity, purpose, and the discipline to move forward—things many young people today are still searching for,” Borg said. “I want to support the next generation, not just as athletes, but as people.”
The $2 million contribution will be directed toward charities in Scandinavia, Europe, and developing nations, supporting mental health clinics for young athletes, sport-based outreach for disadvantaged youth, and housing projects for people facing long-term homelessness. A portion will also fund tennis scholarships and community courts in underserved regions.
The ATP Tour and International Tennis Hall of Fame issued statements applauding Borg’s action, calling it “an example of legacy leadership” and “a continuation of his lifelong calm, class, and commitment.” Former rivals like John McEnroe praised Borg’s move, with McEnroe noting, “Even in retirement, Björn continues to ace life.”
