Asciak Earns VFLW Captaincy – Celebrate the Moment!
The Western Bulldogs have appointed Stephanie Asciak as VFLW captain for the 2025 season.
Asciak has played 31 games for the VFLW Bulldogs across the past two seasons, including last year’s Grand Final.
She finished fourth in the Club Best and Fairest count while also claiming the 2024 Coaches’ Award.
Asciak will be supported by three co-vice captains in Jaimi Tabb, Bri McFarlane and Millie Klingbeil, with Mali McLeod and Mary Sandral making up the leadership group.
Tabb joined the Kennel in 2022, enjoying a break-out campaign last year which saw her finish runner-up in the Club Best and Fairest and be named in the VFLW Team of the Year.
McFarlane is no stranger to the red, white and blue, having played 12 senior games across two seasons on the Dogs’ AFLW list.
Klingbeil crossed to the Bulldogs from Carlton VFLW ahead of last season, impressing as a utility to play 17 matches in her debut season.
“Steph’s growth and development on-field over the last few years has been massive, but this pre-season has seen her leadership and training standards shine,” head coach Rhys Cahir said.
“Along with her passion for the whole team’s growth and driving our team-first philosophy, Steph has earned the respect of the playing group to vote her in as our captain for season 2025.”
Cahir also commended the three co-vice captains and remainder of the leadership group.
“Equally, to have three outstanding vice captains that have excellent leadership attributes themselves to help Steph lead is something the group is very lucky to have.
“Former captain Mary Sandral and emerging leader Mali McLeod will also be part of our leadership group that will help drive standards to give us the best chance to go one step better in 2025.”
The VFLW Bulldogs will open their campaign against Williamstown at Mission Whitten Oval on Sunday 20 April.
